Planning my first trip to South Africa. Read through the older threads but wanted to check if info is still current.

My main questions:
1. Best area to stay for easy access to the scene?
2. Realistic daily budget including accommodation?
3. Any areas to avoid?
4. How is the quality compared to Czech Republic?
5. Best time of day to go out?

Coming from the US with experience in Europe but first time in South Africa.

Any recent reports or recommendations appreciated. Thanks!

Different experience for me. Prices were lower when I went.

First time was a learning experience. Second time was so much more efficient. Experience makes all the difference.

I was there in March and prices were slightly higher. Spent about $120/day all-in.

My tip: avoid weekends.

Word of caution — watch out for taxi scams at the airport. Other than that, great destination.

What was your total spend roughly? Trying to budget for mine.

Also recommend downloading Grab before you go. Essential.

Spot on with the prices. Matches what I paid recently.

How long did it take to feel comfortable and find the good spots?

I was there in February and prices were slightly higher. Spent about $80/day all-in.

My tip: try the local spots away from tourists.
