Safety update for New Zealand based on recent experience and community reports:

General Safety Level: Low risk if you stick to known areas.

Common Risks:
- Taxi overcharging — always use app-based rides
- ATM skimming — use bank ATMs inside branches
- Room theft — use hotel safe

Areas to Avoid:
Avoid the area around the bus station at night.

Police Situation:
Corruption exists but tourists rarely targeted.

Stay safe out there.

Good info. Going during the week is much better — less crowded and better prices.

I was there in March and prices were slightly higher. Spent about $150/day all-in.

My tip: avoid weekends.
