Planning my first trip to Cartagena. Read through the older threads but wanted to check if info is still current.

My main questions:
1. Best area to stay for easy access to the scene?
2. Realistic daily budget including accommodation?
3. Any areas to avoid?
4. How is the quality compared to Czech Republic?
5. Uber or taxi?

Coming from Canada with experience in Europe but first time in Cartagena.

Any recent reports or recommendations appreciated. Thanks!

First time was a learning experience. Second time was so much more efficient. Experience makes all the difference.

Agreed on all points. Make sure to book hotels in advance.

Good info. Going during the week is much better — less crowded and better prices.

Word of caution — watch out for taxi scams at the airport. Other than that, great destination.

Also recommend downloading Maps.me before you go. Essential.

Word of caution — some online profiles are fake. Other than that, great destination.

I was there in January and prices were great value. Spent about $100/day all-in.

My tip: try the local spots away from tourists.

I was there in March and prices were exactly as described. Spent about $50/day all-in.

My tip: go early evening.

Been going for years. Scene has gotten busier.
