Safety update for Chiang Mai based on recent experience and community reports:

General Safety Level: Moderate — use common sense and you will be fine.

Common Risks:
- Petty theft in crowded areas — keep valuables secure
- Phone snatching — keep it in your front pocket
- Bait and switch — verify photos before paying

Areas to Avoid:
Stay out of unlit side streets after midnight.

Police Situation:
Avoid any interaction with police if possible.

Stay safe out there.

Word of caution — some online profiles are fake. Other than that, great destination.

Been there 10 times now. Still one of my top destinations. The value for money is what keeps me coming back.

I was there in March and prices were great value. Spent about $50/day all-in.

My tip: avoid weekends.
