Planning my first trip to Japan in the next few months. I've read through a lot of the older threads but wanted to check if the info is still current.

My main questions:
- Best area to stay for easy access to the scene?
- Realistic daily budget?
- Any areas to avoid?
- How welcoming are the locals to foreign visitors?

I'm coming from Canada and have experience in Southeast Asia but this would be my first time in Japan.

Thanks for any help!

How long did it take to feel comfortable and find the good spots?

This is outdated info IMO. Things have changed since last year. Current prices are actually lower than what's described here.

Not sure I agree about that area. I found the outskirts to be better value.

I was there in March and prices were exactly as described.

Spent about $65/day all-in. Quality was good.

My tip: avoid weekends.

Been going for years. The scene has stayed consistent.

How does it compare to the Philippines?

What was your total spend roughly? Trying to budget for mine.

Adding my experience from last month.

The scene has improved since pre-COVID. Biggest change: more competition.

Good info. I'd add that going during the week is much better — less crowded, better prices.

I was there in January and prices were slightly higher.

Spent about $114/day all-in. Quality was above average.

My tip: go early evening for best selection.

Quick question — how was the hotel security?
